Today we kicked off the first of a series of speakers we’re bringing in to learn new perspectives from various industries. We had local puppeteer, Bonnie Duncan, give a presentation about her work. Talking about her craft in front of a large group of adult nerds was probably intimidating, but we assured her that we are just as easily amused as children. We learned about the various types of puppetry, from hand puppets to rod-mounted, to shadow and marionettes. It was pretty inspiring watching...

It was a close race up until the very end! Jimmy was ahead by one or two votes and it looked like he had this one in the bag, which would have made him the reigning champion two years in a row. His Vincent Price-esque stash made him seem to be right out of Hollywood circa 1959, and we applaud him for his creativity.

But it was the sheer volume of Nick's mustache that captured our hearts - and the last few votes - in the end. Josh said it best: "Nick looks like he was born to grow a...

If you don't start out the New Year with a mustache competition, then you just don't know how to have a good time. That's what we believe here at Demiurge. Our annual Christmustache Competition started with a bang yesterday, as eight of our most daring Demiurgers had committed to growing the most impressive mustaches they could over the holiday break. The studio had a little more gusto than usual as artists, engineers, designers and QA testers filtered in, many of them looking downright...

It’s that time of the year where we start doing things and saying we did them because “it’s the holiday season!” Parties, card-sending, gift stealing, drinking, and facial hair growing! As if we need an excuse to do any of those (except maybe the one where we send a message to someone in a non-digital format). Good thing we got all this partying out of the way before the world comes to an end later today or whenever.

Our first holiday party was at the Middlesex Lounge in Cambridge. Open...

We hope you all had a wonderful Halloween! We sure did, and we continued to celebrate into last night with Scream Fortress at our weekly Game Night! It was pretty brutal - we didn't survive very long in any of our attempts to stave off the zombie TF-Dudes. They weren't kidding about the "more than eight hundred" zombies.

Jimmy was the sole Demiurger to don a full-fledged costume this year, but it's a pretty good one. Check out the image gallery to see which member of the Scooby gang he...

Demiurge doesn't have a booth at PAX Prime this year, but we're there in spirit! Sega and Gearbox are showing off the Escape mode we created for Aliens: Colonial Marines. As the Marines, you'll have to fend off swarms of Xenomorphs to reach safe areas. Make it in good time and with all teammates intact, and you'll earn a better score. Playing as a Xenomorph, it's your job to prevent the Marines from reaching their goals. Climb on walls and crawl through vents to surprise-attack the Marine...

We're proud to announce the first game in our new mobile publishing initiative. Owlchemy Labs, creators of Snuggle Truck, is currently at work on an original Apple iOS action title slated for release in early 2013. Both Boston-based teams are hot on the heels of recent releases; Demiurge's Shoot Many Robots: Arena Kings, a free-to-play PvP shooter now in closed beta for PC, and Owlchemy Labs with Jack Lumber, a pun-filled slow-motion log-slicing action/arcade game published by SEGA Alliance...

This week's Bad Idea Friday, we set out to create a tabletop game based on the name, "Makeout on Murder Mountain." Here's what happened in the 45 minutes we had to make it.

First, the fiction behind the game: You're lured to Murder Mountain by a Craigslist murderer pretending to be a pretty girl, who may in actual fact be a bear who wants to eat you. We had a random set of board items: Scrabble letters, Scrabble letter holders, cards, dice, and plastic figures. Then we had to start creating...

We're excited to officially announce our next game, Shoot Many Robots: Arena Kings, the player-versus-player follow-up to our first original title, Shoot Many Robots! The new, standalone game Arena Kings is an online deathmatch that pits players against each other in a game of (porcelain) thrones. In “Royal Flush” the Kings must murder each other to collect their crowns, and flush them down a teleporting golden toilet, naturally. New content and updates are being added to the game weekly,...
